Stewartby 100 Year Milestone Celebrations

Stewartby is a model village and civil parish in Bedfordshire, originally built for the workers of the London Brick Company.

The village was designed and built to the plans of the company’s architect Mr F W Walker, a later and more modern development than such better-known Victorian model villages as Saltaire.

Started in 1926, Stewartby also is a later model than Woodlands which was first planned in 1905. The later retirement bungalow development of the 1950s and 1960s with the pavilion community centre in their midst was designed by the well known neo-Georgian architect Professor Sir Albert Richardson.

How we’ve celebrated so far…..

Over 600 People Celebrate 100 Years of Stewartby History

More than 600 people came together at Stewartby Village Hall to celebrate 100 years of Stewartby’s history, making the event a tremendous success.

Visitors enjoyed a fascinating collection of memorabilia, historic photographs, video footage and displays that showcased the rich heritage of the village and its famous brickmaking industry. Throughout the day, former and current residents, employees and families shared memories and stories, creating a wonderful atmosphere of reflection and community spirit.

The event provided an opportunity for generations to connect, learn about Stewartby’s past, and celebrate the people who helped shape its history over the last century.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who attended, contributed exhibits and shared their memories. Special thanks also go to our partners and volunteers whose hard work and support helped make this memorable centenary celebration such a success.

Saturday 4th July – We celebrated at Dave Law Sports Pavilion with the Fairground, Stalls, Food & Drink, Live Entertainment, DJ and sponsored Fireworks!

As part of our village’s 100-year celebrations, we recently had the pleasure of hosting a Sunday afternoon tea for the residents of Sir Malcolm Stewart Homes. The event brought everyone together with plenty of conversation, laughter, and delicious food to enjoy. It was a lovely opportunity for residents to socialise, reminisce, and feel part of the wider community, and it’s fair to say they all had a truly wonderful time…..
