There has been much discussion recently regarding the future of Coronation Pit, with residents of the parish rightly concerned it will be used as a location for extracting raw materials or worse – a landfill site. The parish council would like to reassure parishioners now that neither will happen.
Seeking assurance on the matter, John Symonds (Chair) contacted Central Bedfordshire Council who confirmed that the proposals are ‘only concerned with the restoration’ of Coronation Pit, and will not involve any ‘waste being imported’ or anything being taken out of the ground. On the contrary, the landowners plan on restoring the site and transforming it into a place parishioners can enjoy. Plans involve allowing the pit to fill with water over the course of the next decade, which in turn will encourage wildlife into the area. Furthermore, there will be a bridleway extending all the way around the edge of the pit for residents to walk and enjoy (see attached plans).
The plans will involve carrying out engineering works and the use of on-site materials, so expect to see some intermittent activity around the site; but rest assured it will not be because of the importing of waste or the exporting of raw materials.
